Sasuke Uchiha is one of the main characters in the entirety of the Naruto franchise, possibly second only to the protagonist himself, Naruto Uzumaki. These two characters have, together, held everything and made Naruto the great success that it is. When Naruto ended, fans were extremely sad to see these two characters part ways and embark on their own journeys.
Of course, Boruto was announced not long after and it was a chance for the fans to see their favorite characters once again. This was certainly extremely exciting for the fans, however, ever since the beginning of Boruto, the roles of these two main characters have been dwindling. Naruto Uzumaki has been permanently sealed away and while Sasuke is still relatively okay, he might be dealt a much worse fate very soon, and of course, fans are already dreading this.
Sasuke Uchiha’s Role In Boruto So Far
From the very beginning of the Boruto series, it was quite clear that Sasuke was only to take the role of a side character. This didn’t come as a surprise to the fans, given that this was the story of Boruto Uzumaki and not the ninjas of the old generation. However, given the importance of Naruto and Sasuke, fans expected these two, especially, to be involved in the major events of the story. Sasuke was, quite clearly, made a mentor to Boruto and fans felt as if he would serve the same role that Kakashi did in the Naruto series.
Sadly, they could not have been more wrong as Sasuke’s character writing in Boruto was not all that great. Although he was involved initially in the fight against the likes of Momoshiki, as the plot moved forward, he was cut out of the story and not focused on as much. Even in the fight against Isshiki, Sasuke was largely irrelevant. The fight was won because of Naruto Uzumaki and, in the end, the effort from Kawaki. Sasuke was defeated quite early into the fight and from then onwards, not seen. He then ended up losing his Rinnegan and, with that, he was weakened tremendously. Fans are thoroughly disappointed in the treatment that he received in Boruto, despite having a great start. With Sasuke weakened, the chances for him to die in Boruto increased more than ever before.
Sasuke’s Role During The Timeskip
Towards the end of Boruto, Sasuke was, once again, given an interesting role. This time, he was to mentor Boruto Uzumaki properly. After Boruto switched lives with Kawaki, Sasuke was, initially, convinced that he needed to be eliminated. However, given that he is a very perceptive person and the fact that Sarada knew the truth and conveyed it to him, he chose to believe the words of his daughter and, from there onwards, decided to help Boruto. The two left the village together and, for 3 years, engaged in grueling training. Fans have not seen much about these two characters since and, even after the timeskip, only Boruto has returned.
However, with his return, fans get an idea of what these two did. Boruto is incredibly strong right now, more than ever before, which means Sasuke has drilled all his skills into him. He trained him in the ways of the sword and taught him some powerful techniques as well. Furthermore, fans were also made aware of the fact that they fought against Code during the timeskip a few times, at the very least. This confrontation led to Code losing his eye. What exactly happened with Sasuke is not known just yet, given that he has not appeared in Boruto Part 2. Despite that, fans do know that he did his job properly as Boruto is stronger than ever before right now and that is certainly a delight for the fans to see.
Post Timeskip Sasuke In Boruto
Sasuke Uchiha has not appeared in Boruto after the timeskip. While fans were desperately waiting for him to make his return with Boruto Uzumaki in the first few chapters, that has not happened, for some strange reason. Boruto has returned to Konoha alone and, currently, he is fighting against the powerful Grimes and, at the same time, Code as well.
These two characters will engage in large-scale combat very soon and the fact that Sasuke is nowhere to be seen is very concerning. The fact that Boruto could not even bear to look Sarada in the eye in the previous chapter also has led many fans to theorize that this is down to the fact that he let her down and allowed Sasuke to die.
While nothing has been confirmed just yet, fans are incredibly concerned about Sasuke and his return in Boruto. The only thing that is giving the fans hope right now is the fact that if Sasuke was actually killed off during the timeskip, then it would go down as the worst writing decision in the history of the entire series. Killing off a character as iconic as Sasuke and not even showing it to fans would be a terrible decision. Because of that, fans are sure that Sasuke Uchiha will pop up sooner rather than later in the story and, with that, play a significant role in the war in Konoha.
Given his level of strength, he would be extremely useful and fans are very excited to see what new powers he has gained. Surely, Boruto is not going to be the only one who grew stronger over the timeskip. Fans are excitedly waiting for Sasuke to return, and while that very well might happen, they should still be aware of the fact that Sasuke might end up dying in the future of Boruto at some point.
Sasuke’s Fate – Will Sasuke Die In Boruto?
In the future of Boruto, fans can expect quite a lot of characters to die. This was hinted at in the prologue of the series where Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki were fighting atop the Hokage faces. Kawaki made it clear that the age of Shinobi is finally over and Boruto implied that he was the last standing Shinobi. This meant that everyone else had either been killed or incapacitated in some way or form. Looking at the destruction in Konoha itself, it appeared as if all the people who lived there were killed off in some way and Boruto was the last person standing. How exactly this came to be is something that fans do not know at the moment. However, if Boruto being the last known Shinobi is a fact, then fans can rest assured that something terrible will happen to Sasuke in the future as well.
The fact is that, at the end of the day, Sasuke is a character who could be used for Boruto to grow even further. If Sasuke ends up dying, Boruto will then ascend to the very next level and get even stronger than ever before, along with gaining the conviction to accomplish his goals. This would be somewhat similar to how Jiraiya’s death propelled Naruto Uzumaki on his journey. Of course, that certainly does not mean that this would be a great writing decision. Fans would be outraged over this and rightly so. However, they should still keep in mind that Sasuke’s death in Boruto is a very real possibility that could end up happening as the story of Boruto progresses.
Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto part 2 chapter 3, is set to be October 20, 2023.
