Highlights

  • LEGO Bionicle-inspired models bring the weird and wonderful Ultra Beasts from the Gen 7 Pokemon games to life in amazing detail.
  • Although Ultra Beasts haven’t been featured in recent Pokemon games, they still hold a special place in fans’ hearts and inspire new Pokemon designs.
  • Despite limited appearances and availability in newer games, fans are hopeful that Ultra Beasts will once again take the spotlight in future generations.

The various Ultra Beasts first introduced in the Gen 7 Pokemon titles represent some of the weirdest Pokemon designs to date, and one fan of these mysterious interdimensional critters manages to recreate them as awesome LEGO Bionicle-inspired models in the real world. While the Pokemon franchise hasn’t introduced any new Ultra Beast designs for some years now, most of them are still obtainable in the most recent games, and they continue to hold a spot in the hearts of many fans.

First introduced in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, Ultra Beasts are widely considered to be one of the strangest divisions of creatures found in the world of Pokemon. While extraterrestrial Pokemon aren’t all that rare in the Pokemon universe according to in-game lore as well as various Pokedex entries, Ultra Beasts take things a step further, with most or all of them presumably hailing from different planes of existence entirely. Many of them sport noticeably unusual and often outright creepy appearances, and there’s even some debate between fans as to whether they should even strictly be considered Pokemon at all.

The inherent uncanniness of the Ultra Beasts and their designs has driven many fans to make them the subjects of countless creative Pokemon projects. Even now, many years after their introduction to the franchise, one creative member of the Pokemon community known as Petersheikah shows off some incredibly detailed art pieces featuring the various unique Ultra Beasts. These awesome models are made entirely out of LEGO and are inspired by LEGO’s Bionicle designs. The models were designed and put together by various different fans, and represent multiple Ultra Beasts including Necrozma, Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Naganadel, Stakataka, and Blacephalon.

While Ultra Beasts haven’t had the spotlight in core-series Pokemon games for years now, many fans argue that they played a big role in inspiring a popular new breed of Pokemon designs seen in the most recent generation. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Paradox Pokemon may not be alien in nature, but their mysterious nature and often aberrant designs have led many fans of the series to draw connections between them and the Ultra Beasts.

While the Ultra Beasts were greatly expanded on in the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games, they’ve unfortunately had little to no presence in the subsequent Pokemon games’ stories, and have since only been obtainable in a limited capacity. While it seems they’ve been left in Gen 7 for the most part, only time will tell whether these unique Pokemon will have the spotlight put on them again in the future.
