A Starfield player has noticed that one of the game’s NPCs was reading a book during their gameplay. Starfield is a big game because of the reception it’s been getting, making Bethesda’s RPG one of the year’s major releases. But Starfield is also a big game because of its huge world, and how much detail it contains.

Starfield players breathe new life into the game building a wide variety of ships and creating characters inspired by pop culture. This creative freedom is one of the elements of Starfield most praised by players, though the game has its share of neat details. One example is how gravity works in Starfield, playing as a mechanic that influences combat and exploration. Starfield‘s food also has its charm, drawing great inspiration from the freeze-dried meals of today’s astronauts. A colony of Starfield robots clones famous people, and they have the same physical features and outfits as their counterparts.

Reddit user Kyul discovered that one of Starfield‘s NPCs was reading A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens at one point in the game. The image shared by the player shows Sarah Morgan, one of the NPCs who appear in Starfield, sitting on a bench and opening her datapad to read. The player then discovers that Sarah is reading chapter 3 of A Tale of Two Cities, a novel released by Dickens in 1859 that tells a story set during the turbulent French Revolution. While in normal gameplay this wouldn’t be possible, the player could see this detail thanks to Photo Mode. In this mode, Starfield players take pictures from different angles, which helps to create beautiful shots.

In the comments section, one of the Starfield players asked if the book changes depending on the companion. Two players said, however, that as far as they know, it’s always A Tale of Two Cities. There is a reason for this, given by a fourth player. According to them, the bookseller in Cheyenne, one of the various solar systems in Starfield, says that when humanity evacuated the Earth, people mostly brought their collections of Dickens books with them. For this reason, the people of the Starfield world seem tired of the author.

Starfield has a great chance of becoming the “Skyrim of space” thanks to its rich world which, the more it is explored, the more surprises it reveals. What is no surprise, however, is that Starfield takes notes from Skyrim as a big inspiration. Starfield triggers different paths and situations for players according to their decisions, making it a positively unpredictable game with the potential to entertain its community in the long run.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
