Baldur’s Gate 3 has a huge array of character creation options, both in terms of visual changes and changes that influence gameplay. While it’s been possible to change the latter since the game came out by speaking with Withers, patch #3 has also added a way to redesign a character’s appearance and some other elements post-character creation too.
In Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch #3, Larian has added a “Magic Mirror” to the game, which allows players to change their character’s appearance, voice, and pronouns. This guide will explain how to find and use the Magic Mirror.
How to Find the Magic Mirror
Players hoping to change their character’s appearance after the game has begun will need to find the Magic Mirror. Fortunately, this spiffy magical artifact can be found at camp at any point once Patch #3 has been installed. In the standard camp accessed by visiting camp while outdoors, the mirror can be found in the small ruined fort tucked away in one corner of the camp. Other camp layouts, such as those accessed in dungeons or in the Underdark will still have the Mirror available but in a different location depending on the camp. For example, the dungeon/ruins camp will likely place the mirror in one of the side rooms accessible by the doors on either side of the camp.
How to Use the Magic Mirror (& What it Can’t Change)
Once players have located the magic mirror, they can interact with it to customize the character they are currently controlling. It is important to note that, as the patch notes say, “Origin Characters, Hirelings, and Full Illithids cannot use the Magic Mirror.” This means players are unable to change the appearance of the Origin characters in any way, among other things.
Players should also note that, while they can change their appearance, nether regions, and pronouns, they are unable to alter their chosen race/subrace and body type. Additionally, the developers were quick to point out that the Mirror cannot undo cosmetic changes that occur as part of the story, such as losing an eye to a hag. This means that players are free to modify their character’s appearance, but cannot undo the consequences of their actions.
Players should therefore be careful when interacting with anyone who could permanently relieve them of an eye or otherwise cause unalterable changes to their character since the Mirror will be no help in undoing such changes.
