LEGO’s Latest Crossover Should Lead to a Video Game Too

[ad_1]

Highlights

  • LEGO has a history of successful crossovers with video game franchises, starting with LEGO Star Wars and expanding to include Indiana Jones and Batman.
  • The Animal Crossing LEGO sets have the potential to spawn a new video game, as the two franchises are compatible in terms of gameplay and offer a sandbox for creative players.
  • A LEGO Animal Crossing game could add a new level of customization, allowing players to build their entire town from scratch and create endless possibilities for their Animal Crossing island.

LEGO has unveiled yet another of its many crossovers, and it’s one that is perfectly set up for a new video game. Over the years, LEGO has managed to associate its name with several of the biggest franchises available. It’s little surprise that the world of video games would be a target for them as well. The crossover between LEGO and Super Mario may be one of the biggest examples, but it wasn’t the first, nor shall it be the last. In fact, one of the company’s most recent projects couldn’t be more perfect for another video game, as the LEGO Animal Crossing sets could inspire a new release.

The history of LEGO crossover video games is surprising. While the LEGO website had flash games several years ago, as well as the LEGO Island games for PC, the brand’s first big break in gaming was LEGO Star Wars. Released years after the popular Star Wars LEGO sets started coming out, the game let players play through a LEGO version of the prequel trilogy. This would eventually lead to a full LEGO Star Wars video game series, and many other properties got LEGO video games as well, such as Indiana Jones and Batman. The LEGO brand has become an effective source for licensed games, and the company should take its deal with Nintendo to another level.

A LEGO Animal Crossing is an Excellent Crossover Game Idea

With the announcement of the Animal Crossing LEGO set, a new potential video game for the LEGO franchise is obvious. Of course, the fact that Animal Crossing is already a video game series in the first place is a good start to the argument. With five confirmed sets already, it’s clear that this is a collaboration that has had some effort put into it. After all, the Mario LEGO sets ended up spawning multiple expansions, so the Animal Crossing sets could easily do the same, especially considering the series’ nature. Both Animal Crossing and LEGO seem quite compatible in a gaming sense as well.

Fans of the series will know that decorating in Animal Crossing is a series staple, and that makes a LEGO crossover game a natural fit. Both offer a sandbox for creative players to thrive, as seen with Animal Crossing‘s customization and LEGO‘s near-infinite building possibilities. An Animal Crossing game featuring a LEGO aesthetic would blend effortlessly with the series’ typical gameplay. Players already spend a lot of time reorganizing their homes and updating their wardrobe in-game, similar to how people have been putting together LEGO sets for decades. The two franchises are a perfect fit for each other in terms of gameplay.

A crossover game with LEGO could also add a new layer of customization to Animal Crossing. Unsurprising, considering that LEGO isn’t restricted to just arranging furniture. It can be used to create entire structures, or even worlds. By diving fully into the spirit of LEGO, an associated Animal Crossing game could see players building nearly every building in the town from scratch to their own specifications. Since LEGO sets can be built in all sorts of ways apart from their intended design, it only seems like a natural feature to add. This would make a LEGO Animal Crossing game into a sandbox with nearly endless possibilities for the player’s town.

Animal Crossing is a prime example of a Nintendo property that deserved a LEGO set, and that has the potential to turn into much more. LEGO and Animal Crossing are both incredibly free-form, with the main objectives being those that the player sets for themselves. By combining the creative potential of both, the ensuing game could let players spend hours on end creating their ultimate Animal Crossing island. The crossover between LEGO and Animal Crossing has remarkable potential to result in a new video game in addition to the announced sets, even if there is nothing to suggest it will happen.
