One skilled player shows that ammo boxes are deadly under the right conditions in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Ammo boxes will prove to be useful across many of the remade maps being introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 such as Highrise and Rust, and players recently had the opportunity to play on these maps during the open beta.
The Modern Warfare 3 beta was held over the course of two weekends from October 6 to October 16. Those who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation consoles were given access first on October 6, but the open beta period allowed everyone to play together from October 14 to October 16 thanks to cross-play functionality. Although players criticized the Modern Warfare 3 beta’s time-to-kill, the Call of Duty community was generally pleased with Sledgehammer Games’ approach to player feedback. Additionally, many changes were made during the beta period, including increased visibility for enemy operator nameplates and a decrease in slide-to-sprint delay.
During the Modern Warfare 3 open beta, Call of Duty fan dannyefcfan was able to get a kill by throwing an ammo box toward another player on the Highrise map. The ammo box exploded on contact with the opponent, registering as “A.C.S Mutual Destruction” for dannyefcfan in the kill feed with a classic grenade launcher icon. This icon was synonymous with grenade launcher kills, which were commonly referred to as “noob tube” kills by the Call of Duty community in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. Many Call of Duty fans were surprised by how deadly an ammo box can be in Modern Warfare 3, but some are disappointed with the lack of challenges and rewards when compared to the older games.
Although dannyefcfan got an impressive kill with the ammo box, the player did not receive a new calling card or emblem unlock in the Modern Warfare 3 beta. Reddit user That1GuyNamedMatt believes that Call of Duty may benefit from having fun challenges again such as the “Lights Out” from the original Modern Warfare 3, which requires the player to kill an opponent by directly hitting them with flash grenade. Call of Duty fans want these challenges to return since it could add an incentive for players who want to use different gear and strive for kills that are outside the norm.
Players who accurately aim the ammo box may be able to get a one-shot kill, but it may not be as reliable as Modern Warfare 3’s overpowered Breacher Drone. The Breacher Drone is a lethal item in Modern Warfare 3, so players may use the ammo box to replenish it. What’s more, the Breacher Drone is able to take out multiple enemies at once in an explosion.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
