Square Enix is sharing concept art of Aerith in her unlockable red dress from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The red dress is just one of several collectible outfits for Aerith in the game. The red dress, specifically, is made available after completing all available side quests in Chapter 8. It’s not just a fun cosmetic either, as the dress is required to obtain the Platinum trophy for the game.

With the series’ second installment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, slated to release early in 2024, fans getting excited to see how all the memorable moments of the classic PS1 RPG play out in the remake. In fact, players are already expecting Aerith’s story to change in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It’s certainly a tough tightrope for developers to walk as just about every aspect, especially the characters, is iconic to fans of the series. Reimagining the world in this from-the-ground-up remake is one thing; meeting fan expectations is another. Luckily, most are in agreement that Square Enix is nailing it thus far — especially when it comes to fan-favorite heroine Aerith.

Publisher and developer Square Enix shared the concept art of Aerith’s unlockable red dress from Final Fantasy 7 Remake with fans on social media. The post displays a black-and-white sketch of the dress as well as a version in full color. Overall, the concept art looks in line with what eventually made it to the final product, but nonetheless, it is fascinating to see the ink and color versions of the design.

Since the game’s release, Square Enix has been sharing various pieces of Final Fantasy 7 Remake concept art with fans. For example, the social media account recently shared concept art of Young Tifa. Over the years, the game has also released behind-the-scenes looks at the game’s other popular characters as well as the world itself.

Both pieces of Aerith concept art feel like they would fit nicely in a limited edition box set or even in the World Record holder’s impressive Final Fantasy collection. Again, while the images themselves don’t differ drastically from what fans will recognize from the game itself, it’s simply fun to see what the developers initially had in mind. In this case, it appears as though the vision was fairly cohesive throughout.

The remake of the classic RPG won’t conclude with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth; rather, the February 2024 release will be the second game in the trilogy. While the second game is still months away, the Final Fantasy Rebirth devs are beginning to draft the third part’s story, so, hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long for the series’ conclusion.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
