Developed by Maxis, The Sims 4 is a super fun video game where players have the opportunity to live out their wildest dreams by constructing homes, selecting careers, and nurturing relationships for their Sims. The game has long been celebrated for its excellent customization options, and Simmers can customize the virtual people in every way imaginable.
The Sims 4 also allows players to alter the skin tone of their Sims, making them truly one-of-a-kind. This comprehensive guide will walk players through the process of altering skin color in The Sims 4.
How to Change Skin Tone in The Sims 4
The Sims 4 initially had a limited range of skin tone options, which was frustrating for players as customization is a key facet of the game. Fortunately, with the introduction of a free base game update for skin tones, players can now easily change the skin color of Sims and create virtual people that are as unique as the players themselves.
The Sims 4 offers players over 100 skin tones to pick from during character creation. From a warm cocoa complexion to a pale porcelain tone, players have plenty of options available to choose from. Moreover, they now have access to a slider that allows them to fine-tune the lightness and darkness of each skin tone to their liking.
The first step to changing a Sim’s skin color is to enter Create-a-Sim mode. Simmers can do this while creating a new Sim or while editing an existing one. To access CAS, players will first need to enable cheats by pressing ‘Ctrl+Shift+C’ and then entering ‘testingcheats on.’ Then, they will have to type ‘cas.fulleditmode’ and select the Sim whose skin tone they want to change while pressing ‘Shift.’
Once Simmers are in the CAS mode, they will need to enter the ‘Detail Edit’ mode. This mode allows players to make precise adjustments to Sims’ facial features. To enter this mode, Simmers will need to click on the Sim’s face. Here, they will be presented with various tabs for different facial features. Players will need to click the ‘Skin Color’ tab, the second option next to the Sim’s face.
In this tab, players will see a range of colors to choose from divided into four categories: warm, neutral, cool, and miscellaneous. After choosing their desired skin tone, they can use the slider to adjust the selected tone accordingly. Simmers can make it lighter, darker, or medium-toned with the help of the sliding scale. Once done, they can save the changes and resume the game.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
