Indie game developer David Szymanski has added a strange new Markiplier Mode that lets players play Iron Lung while being surrounded by the famous YouTuber’s pictures. The indie horror game’s new mode is in reference to its film adaptation, which Markiplier is currently working on.
Mainstream and indie game developers, especially those who created horror games, have been releasing Halloween-themed or spooky updates to capitalize on October’s ghostly atmosphere. Epic Games added Michael Myers to Fortnite, while Behaviour Interactive launched Dead by Daylight‘s Haunted by Daylight Halloween event that brings back old favorites while adding new twists for players to enjoy. Szymanski is no different from these developers, especially with their indie horror game, Iron Lung.
According to Zymanski’s announcement on Steam, they added a few cheat codes Iron Lung players can use for themselves during their playthrough. These cheats, of which there are seven, are not as game-breaking as the ones in Red Dead Redemption 2 – one allows players to view the game in black and white, make its lighting more colorful, and even add a speaker inside the submarine. There is also a cheat code that activates Markiplier Mode, which swaps the submarine’s internal texture for pictures of Markiplier, essentially surrounding players with them, save for a few buttons and indicator lights.
Zymanski’s addition of the Markiplier Mode to Iron Lung may surprise the indie game’s fans who don’t follow the YouTuber’s recent exploits. The mode references Markiplier’s work in directing and starring in Iron Lung‘s film adaptation. Apart from the new cheats, Zymanski also revealed that Iron Lung will be 20% off as part of the Steam Scream: The Revenge event, which started on October 26 and ends on November 2. Lastly, the indie game developer said they are changing Iron Lung‘s price from $6 to $8 after the sale, though they’re making all future updates and DLC, including the movie’s behind-the-scenes photos, free of charge in exchange.
While some prospective gamers may feel uncomfortable with Zymanski increasing Iron Lung‘s price by $2, the game developer stressed that this instance is the first and last time they will do so. “I believe $8 is a fairer price, more in line with what similar horror games ask, and more sustainable for me over the long run,” Zymanski said. Regardless, gamers, especially Markiplier fans, may find that they will get as much value as they can with the $2 increase. Only time will tell if Zymanski’s words will ring true in the future.
