Best Historical RTS Games

[ad_1]

Highlights

  • Hegemony 3: Clash Of The Ancients puts players in command of Rome before their empire’s rise, with a focus on resource management and large-scale battles.
  • Cossacks 3 offers impressive large-scale battles and includes unique resource management mechanics, reminiscent of Age Of Empires.
  • Total War: ATTILA takes a different approach, shifting the focus from conquering to survival, requiring careful resource management and strategic decisions in a time of dwindling fertility.

Historical settings are some of the most common in the RTS genre. Thanks to the abundance of wars that have taken place throughout history, there’s a variety of settings, themes, and time periods to choose from when combining RTS games with historical events.

However, with so many historical RTS games on the market, it can be hard to discern which are the best. There’s no denying that the Total War franchise has somewhat of a monopoly on historical RTS/war games, other games have been given a fair shot for variety’s sake.
