How to Farm All Wood Types
[ad_1]
Disney Dreamlight Valley boasts eight diverse biomes rich with a variety of materials for the player to collect. These resources enable the player to craft items, prepare recipes, and complete quests. Therefore, foraging and gathering throughout the Village’s wilderness is a large part of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s immersive experience.
Wood is an incredibly valuable resource in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It is required for numerous quests and recipes, often in high amounts. Additionally, the game’s storage chests are crafted using wood. Those that offer the most storage require a substantial amount of the rarer varieties, including Dry Wood and Dark Wood. Here’s everything players need to know about farming wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
What is Foraging in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Nearly all of Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s ingredients and materials are collected through use of the player’s Royal Tools. Players can plant seeds with the Royal Shovel and nurture their growth with the Royal Watering Can. The Royal Fishing Rod allows the player to catch fish in rivers, ponds, and the open sea.
However, not all items require use of these tools to obtain. The biomes in Dreamlight Valley feature numerous materials which spawn naturally in the wild, and can be collected through Foraging. Foraging involves any collection of materials performed only by interacting with these items. Any wild-grown edible ingredients collected via Foraging, including mushrooms, herbs, and fruit, have a chance to spawn additional drops when the player is accompanied by a companion with the Foraging role.
However, while both flowers and wood sticks are gathered in this same way, they will not gain any benefit from the companion bonus, and no additional items can spawn when they are foraged. Therefore, it’s recommended to regularly visit each biome to collect its daily allotment of these items.
How Does Wood Spawning Work?
There are four different types of wood that spawn naturally in Disney Dreamlight Valley: Softwood, Hardwood, Drywood, and Dark Wood. Each biome will generate certain types of wood daily for players to collect. Wood can be collected by simply approaching the item on the ground and pressing the Interact key; no additional tools are required.
While each type of wood will spawn only from trees found its respective biome, it does not matter which trees are placed in that area. Placement of any type of tree will cause that biome’s specific wood to drop, provided it is not a fruit tree, from which wood cannot spawn. There is a maximum of how much of each of that biome’s wood type will spawn each day, so there is no reason for the player to place excessive trees in any biome.
Where to Farm All Different Types of Wood
Each of the four types of wood will spawn only in specific biomes. Here’s where players can find each type of wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley:
Material |
Biomes |
---|---|
Softwood |
|
Hardwood |
|
Dry Wood |
|
Dark Wood |
Three of the four types of wood can be obtained through additional means beyond foraging.
- Kristoff’s Stall will occasionally stock Softwood, Hardwood, or Dry Wood in limited quantities.
- The player can remove tree stumps in Forest of Valor, using the upgraded Royal Shovel, which will drop wood when cleared. Small Tree Stumps will yield 3 Softwood, and Large Tree Stumps will yield 4 Softwood and 2 Hardwood.
- Unfortunately, there are no other methods of obtaining Dark Wood besides Foraging in the Forgotten Lands biome.
How to Optimize Wood Farming
Wood will spawn randomly around any trees that are placed in a biome, provided there is available space on the ground around that tree. Wood will not spawn in any space that is occupied by another item, such as a rock or an existing piece of wood. Wood also will not spawn from fruit-bearing trees.
However, wood will still spawn on tiles featuring outdoor flooring, including paths and roads. Players can take advantage of this by placing flooring around the tree, which prevents herbs or flowers from spawning in those spaces but still allows wood to fall and be collected.
To ensure each tree can output its maximum amount of wood, leave a grid of 2 squares of open space completely around the tree, regardless of the size of the tree. For example, a 2×2 tree will require a 4×4 squares of open space with the tree placed in the middle. A 4×4 tree would require 8×8 free spaces, and so on.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s biomes feature many varieties of trees, ranging from the small and simple trees in the Plaza to the giant, sprawling species growing in the Forgotten Lands. Some of these trees, while beautiful and unique, can make farming wood a bit more challenging. It is especially difficult to see Dark Wood, native only to the Forgotten Lands, as it is a very dark biome featuring expansive coverage by its large trees.
How to Farm Dark Wood
Players who are explicitly focused on gathering the Forgotten Lands exclusive Dark Wood should utilize this strategy. First, remove all the biome’s trees and instead place a small arrangement of smaller trees, including the Plaza Tree, which requires only a 2×2 grid of space. If the player wishes to farm Dark Wood exclusively, they should place only 2 trees and collect only the Dark Wood that spawns, leaving any Dry Wood on the ground. This ensures that only Dark Wood will spawn after the maximum amount of Dry Wood has been generated. Again, for maximum effectiveness, all other trees in the biome should be removed.
This will, unfortunately, result in a significant change to the biome’s atmosphere and aesthetic, and should only be considered if such a thing would not bother the player. To keep the natural feel of each biome, make sure the area around the wild-grown trees is free of obstacles. This helps avoid any problems that could affect the wood spawns.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
