If the player decides to stick with the human race, they will have many options to choose from. There is no wrong way to go about it, but there are a few steps that can be taken to make a proper build with the human race.

Overview

A Human Sorcerer in Baldur's Gate 3

The human race has no sub-races, unlike many of Baldur Gate’s 3’s other races, but it is still one of the most versatile races to pick in the game.

Like most other races, humans get a 9-meter movement, thanks to Base Racial Speed. They also get Civil Militia which grants weapon proficiency with spears, pikes, halberds, and glaives. They also get armpit proficiency with light armor and shields.

Humans also have Human Versatility, granting them an extra skill to gain proficiency in, and an increase by a quarter in carrying capacity.

Best Human Build in Baldur’s Gate 3 – Wizard

The human race is so balanced that it is hard to go wrong with it. However, a good build players can consider is the Wizard build for humans. Specifically, going the route of the Evocation school.

Wizards work with high intelligence and the best proficiency skills to pick are between these: Nature, investigation, and religion.

Thanks to the human’s armor and shield proficiency, they will be able to be better protected as a wizard compared to some other races.

The best background to go with, if going with the human wizard build is, of course, the Sage, as it gives proficiency in history and arcana, which are skills based on intelligence. Players should then invest their points in intelligence as well.

Second Best Human Build In Baldur’s Gate 3 – Barbarian

If the player does not wish to build a spell-casting character, another great option for humans is the Barbarian class, specifically the Berserker, which makes great use of their civil militia skill.

Having an increase of a quarter in carrying capacity would make the human perfect for having a very large storage capacity too as the Barbarian is a strength-based class.

The best background would be soldier and the best proficiency skills to invest in would be survival and animal handling.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
