Highlights

  • CD Projekt Red has teased the possibility of a complete edition or game of the year version of Cyberpunk 2077, following the success of its latest expansion and updates.
  • The team also hinted at a potential sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and new projects, including a follow-up to the Netflix anime and a live-action series.
  • Despite the initial release issues, CD Projekt Red has managed to restore excitement and deliver on the promise of Cyberpunk 2077 through updates and expansions, reaching the high expectations set by The Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077 publisher and developer CD Projekt Red recently teased the first official details about a complete edition of the futuristic RPG. The last and latest major expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, titled Phantom Liberty, successfully launched and is getting gamers excited about the franchise’s future. Fans and investors alike are curious about the release of an ultimate edition or game of the year version of Cyberpunk 2077 – similar to the company’s base game and DLC package, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition.

The base version of CD Projekt Red’s last major RPG, The Witcher 3, was released to rave reviews on PC and last-generation hardware. The game’s success garnered two DLC expansions, and later, its own all-in-one collection. This isn’t an uncommon practice with popular games, and considering the success of the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update and the recent expansion, it makes sense that CD Projekt Red would consider a similar move. Based on some recent comments made by studio heads, it’s certainly on their minds, at least.

When asked about the potential for a “game of the year edition” during an investor Q&A, CD Projekt’s chief commercial officer Michał Nowakowski responded with a confirmation and a tease of more information. Nowakowski said, “In terms of a new edition, collector’s edition, we don’t know the name yet, but when the time comes, we’ll let you know.” The question comes just after a listing of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition appeared on a European rating board.

This isn’t the only information that the team teased to investors. CD Projekt Red gave some details on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. The developer and publisher also discussed a potential follow-up to Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as well as a new live-action series. Details surrounding all the new projects were a bit sparse, but CD Projekt Red promises to share more information when it’s ready.

After the tumultuous initial release (especially on last-generation consoles), it’s incredible that CD Projekt Red has gotten the franchise to a place where fans are excited about more content coming to the Cyberpunk 2077 series. The well-reviewed Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion and all the free updates to this point have the game finally living up to the promise of its initial trailers and gameplay demos. By now it’s safe to say that CD Projekt Red has survived the headaches of the initial launch and has Cyberpunk 2077 operating somewhere around the high expectations the developer has set for itself after the success of The Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
