Tears of the Kingdom Player Has Creative Way to Get Around Without Using Mine Carts

Highlights

  • A crafty player in Tears of the Kingdom created a makeshift vehicle using common Zonai devices to traverse railings without a mine cart, a useful trick when carts aren’t available.
  • Tears of the Kingdom introduced new gameplay elements like floating islands and rails, which allow players to travel across the map. Some shrines are dedicated to these rails.
  • Players can also create a skateboard by fusing a shield and a mine cart, which is great for going down steep hills and grinding rails in Tears of the Kingdom.

A crafty Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player fused a few common Zonai devices together to create a new way to traverse railings without using a mine cart. Tears of the Kingdom players can find railings all over Hyrule, The Depths, and the Sky Islands, but mine carts aren’t always lying around, making this new trick very useful in those situations.

As much as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought new ideas and playstyles to the franchise, Tears of the Kingdom managed to bring even more surprises to the table, like exploring the floating islands in the sky and using Link’s brand-new abilities. One of the new ideas that Tears of the Kingdom brings to the Zelda series are the rails that populate the world that allow Link to travel from one area of the map to another. These rails can be found all over the place, and there are even a few shrines in Tears of the Kingdom dedicated to this new element. Normally, players would fuse a fan to a mine cart to get from one side of a rail to another, but one creative player figured out another way to achieve this feat.

Reddit user zeeeekrei posted a video on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit of a makeshift vehicle that can be used on most rails in the game. The clip starts off with Link on the Great Sky Island, using a vehicle made out of Zonai devices to go up a railing to get to a higher part of the island. The vehicle itself is slow-moving and gets slightly stuck toward the top of the railing when it encounters a slip hump. However, it still manages to get Link from point A to point B.

To make this vehicle, zeeeekrei used some of the most useful Zonai devices in Tears of the Kingdom, two small wheels fused together with a downward stake connected to each side. It’s a quick build to throw together when the player can’t find a cart in the area. One commenter mentioned that if the player fuses a Steering Stick to the top, it can also be driven in reverse. The one downside is that some railings in the game have boards or metal pieces on the bottom, making it easy for the stakes to get snagged on.

Another great way to travel across rails in Tears of the Kingdom is by making a skateboard. The basic way players can do this is by fusing together a shield and a minecart, but there are a few other ways as well. A skateboard is excellent for going down steep hills and can also be used for grinding rails.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
