Marvel Snap’s Hulk Deserves a Buff for One Lore-Related Location
[ad_1]
Highlights
- Marvel Snap serves as a fun and informative encyclopedia of Marvel characters and lore, providing players with insights into their abilities and the significance of different locations.
- The Gamma Lab in Marvel Snap is an interesting location that turns cards played there into Hulks, which can be both fantastic or awful depending on the circumstances of the match.
- High Evolutionary in Marvel Snap has made Hulk and other cards without abilities more valuable. Hulk gains +2 Power for each turn ended with unspent Energy, making them powerful on the final turn if players stack Power onto them throughout the match. However, this buff does not apply to Hulk cards produced by the Gamma Lab, which could be improved to make them more competitive.
Part of what’s fun about Marvel Snap is that the game can behave as a sort of ancillary encyclopedia of Marvel characters, settings, and lore. In order to understand a lot of what it depicts players will need to have some foundation of context for certain characters and locations, of course, but fans can get an idea of what characters’ abilities are or why a location may be significant. Uncle Ben is hilariously lore-accurate in terms of how his destruction produces a Spider-Man card, for instance, while Marvel Snap’s Central Park fittingly adds a Squirrel token to each location.
Not every location or character has an ability or action that connects to the overarching source material it is adapted from, such as the Wakandan Embassy simply giving +2 Power to cards in players’ hands. However, one of the locations that does stand out for its lore accuracy and can be a bit of a nuisance in Marvel Snap is the Gamma Lab, which after turn three faithfully turns any cards played there into a Hulk. This is either fantastic or awful depending on circumstances involved in the rest of the match, but it is missing out on a unique advantage that Hulk cards could potentially have when one powerful card is in players’ decks.
Marvel Snap’s Gamma Lab Has an Odd Caveat with High Evolutionary
Marvel Snap’s Hulk was originally intimidating due to how high his Power is, but because he didn’t have any abilities associated with him in his card text he quickly became a waste of a card to play in the last turn. Thanks to Marvel Snap’s High Evolutionary, though, Hulk and other cards with no abilities suddenly became quite decent if players are patient and don’t mind ending turns with some Energy leftover.
Hulk is now incredibly powerful if players are lucky enough to draw him into their hand early since High Evolutionary’s buff for the gamma-radiated monster gives him +2 Power each time a turn is ended with any amount of Energy unspent, making him a wonderful card to play on a final turn if players were able to stack Power onto him the entire match. That said, while this is an exciting way to see Bruce Banner be an effective powerhouse again, this same buff does not apply to Hulk cards that are produced by Marvel Snap’s Gamma Lab location.
Players who have High Evolutionary in their deck should arguably get to take advantage of Hulks produced by the Gamma Lab, too. This could make it so that Hulk cards there for the player can begin to accumulate unspent Energy as Power. Plus, it wouldn’t necessarily be that OP since all it would take is for an opponent to play a Shang-Chi to instantly delete all that progress, and the chances of a Gamma Lab location appearing anyway aren’t reliable at all.
Still, when players tie cards on a Gamma Lab and both result in the same number of Hulks there after turn three, it would be tremendously satisfying if players could turn that tide by incrementally increasing their Hulks’ Power each turn thereafter, as well as potentially having Misty Knight buff their Power further. In the meantime, High Evolutionary Hulk players can fare relatively well so long as they are able to buff him early, and ideally throw down a Magik in order to play Hulk on turn seven when he’ll be able to make last-second use out of unspent Energy.
Marvel Snap is available now on mobile devices and PC.
