How to Get Hisuian Lilligant (How to Evolve Petilil)

[ad_1]

Quick Links

Petilil and its evolution, Lilligant, first appeared in Gen 5, but they were version exclusives and only obtainable (without trading) in Pokemon White and Pokemon White 2. Thankfully, these Pokemon are not version exclusives for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, meaning they can be caught in the wild just as most other Pokemon.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Lilligant was given a regional variant: Hisuian Lilligant. This Pokemon is a Grass/Fighting-type, and one of them served as the Noble Pokemon in Hisui. Trainers can’t catch the Noble Lilligant, but they can get their own Hisuian Lilligant in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. However, doing so will require trading, or a copy of Legends: Arceus.

How to Get Petilil

In Paldea, Petilil can be found in West Province (Area One), which is right around the area where trainers fight the Titan Bombirdier. For some reason, Petilil has very few spawn locations in Paldea, so players may have better luck searching for Petilil in Kitakami. The Kitakami Petilil spawn on Reveler’s Road and near the lake in Wistful Fields. Their levels are around 18-21 or as high as level 34 before completing “The Way Home” main quest.

How to Evolve Petilil into Hisuian Lilligant

pokemon legends arceus how to evolve petilil into hisuian lilligant noble pokemon sun stone location petilil where crimson mirelands

Petilil will evolve into Hisuian Lilligant when exposed to a Sun Stone, but only if it’s evolved in the Hisui region. This means trainers are going to have to transfer their Petilil to Pokemon Legends: Arceus by using Pokemon HOME. If Petilil is given a Sun Stone in Paldea or Kitakami, then it will evolve into the Unovian Lilligant.

Here’s how to get Hisuian Lilligant:

  1. Catch a Petilil in Scarlet/Violet, then place it in a PC Box. Save, then exit out of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.
  2. Open Pokemon HOME on the Switch, then choose Scarlet/Violet.
  3. Move the Petilil from SV‘s PC Box to HOME‘s Basic Box. Save and exit.
  4. Now, open up Pokemon Legends: Arceus in Pokemon HOME.
  5. Move the Petilil from the Basic Box to one of Legends: Arceus‘ Pastures. Save and exit.
  6. Close out of Pokemon HOME, and start up Legends: Arceus.
  7. Go to Jubilife Village or any of the Base Camps and access the Pastures.
  8. Add Petilil to the party, then use a *Sun Stone to evolve it into Hisuian Lilligant.
  9. Return the newly-evolved Lilligant to the Pastures, then save and close Legends: Arceus.
  10. Go back to Pokemon HOME, choose Legends: Arceus, and return Lilligant to the Basic Box. Save and exit.
  11. Choose Scarlet/Violet in HOME to place Lilligant back in the PC Boxes. Save and exit. Lilligant should be in the PC of either Scarlet/Violet when players start up the game from the Switch menu.

* Since Held Items will be returned to the bag when placed in HOME, trainers are going to need to use a Sun Stone from Hisui to evolve Petilil. Sun Stones can be obtained by any of the following:

  • They have a chance of dropping from mining Ore Deposits.
  • Sometimes, the Ride Ursaluna will dig up a Sun Stone.
  • Completing “Quest 85: At Home under the Eaves” gives a Sun Stone as a reward.
  • Ginter of the Ginko Guild shop outside the main character’s house will sometimes offer a Sun Stone for 5000.
  • Players can buy a Sun Stone from the Merit Shop for 1000 Merit Points (MP). MP is gained by collecting satchels.

Hisuian Lilligant or Unovan Lilligant?

Both Lilligants have the same base stat total, but the stats themselves are different. Lilligant is only a Grass-type whereas the Hisuian Lilligant is a dual Grass/Fighting-type. This means Hisuian Lilligant is going to have more strengths and weaknesses than the Unovian Lilligant.

Hisuian Lilligant’s base Attack is 105 and its Special Attack is 50; Unovian Lilligant has 60 Attack and 110 Special Attack. This means Hisuian Lilligant is suited to be a physical attacker while Unovian Lilligant is a special attacker. Even their learnsets are different with Hisuian Lilligant getting moves such as Leaf Blade, while Unovian Lilligant learns Petal Dance. Hisuian Lilligant also has a signature move, Victory Dance, that increases all of its stats by one stage during battle.

Both Lilligants have the same base HP, Defense, and Special Defense. However, Hisuian Lilligant is faster than Unovian Lilligant, so if players want a Lilligant that’s speedy and a physical attacker, then Hisuian Lilligant is who they should choose. Because of her high Speed, Hisuian Lilligant’s best Nature is Jolly (+Spd, -Sp.Attk). Even Adamant (+Attk, -Sp.Attk) works for a Hisuian Lilligant.

Despite being a physical attacker, Hisuian Lilligant’s movepool mostly consist of special attacks. It also doesn’t learn many Fighting-type moves, so trainers may have to turn to TMs if they want an even Fighting/Grass moveset. It learns Axe Kick at level 5 (which can be relearned via the Remember option in Lilligant’s Summary), but trainers may want to teach it Brick Break or Low Sweep instead. Axe Kick does a lot of damage, but if she misses her opponent, then Lilligant will take damage instead.

One drawback to Hisuian Lilligant are her weaknesses. She takes quadruple damage from Flying-type moves, whereas her Unovian counterpart only takes double. This is in fault to Hisuian Lilligant’s Grass and Fighting-type. She also has the additional type weaknesses to Psychic and Fairy-type moves. However, her Fighting-typing means she can resist Dark and Rock-type moves, something Unovian Lilligant can not.

Finally, Hisuian and Unovian Lilligant have different Abilities. They both have the same Hidden Ability (Leaf Guard), but Hisuian Lilligant will have Chlorophyll or Hustle as one if its two Abilities. Unovian Lilligant gets Chlorophyll or Own Tempo. Here’s what to know:

Ability #1

Ability #2

Hidden Ability

Hisuian Lilligant

Chlorophyll: Boosts Lilligant’s Speed during harsh sunlight.

Hustle: Increases Lilligant’s attack power at the cost of her accuracy.

Leaf Guard: Protects Lilligant from status ailments during harsh sunlight.

Unovian Lilligant

Chlorophyll: Boosts Lilligant’s Speed during harsh sunlight.

Own Tempo: Prevents Lilligant from getting Confused or from being Intimidated.

Leaf Guard: Protects Lilligant from status ailments during harsh sunlight.

While Unovian Lilligant can get away with Own Tempo, Hisuian Lilligant’s Abilities aren’t the greatest. For one, Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard require setting up harsh sunlight via Sunny Day or the Drought Ability from another Pokemon. While Hustle doesn’t sound bad on paper, Hisuian Lilligant is going to struggle to hit her opponent, so it may not be worth the risk of having a Leaf Guard-Lilligant with Axe Kick or other self-damaging moves. It doesn’t help that Hisuian Lilligant is a physical attacker. Hustle decreases the accuracy of physical moves, but not special, status, or 1HKO moves. Thus, players will want their Hisuian Lilligant to have Chlorophyll if they’re playing things safe.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
