After an eight-year gap since its initial release, Cities: Skylines is making a return to both PCs and consoles with an all-new city-building simulation. This time, Paradox Interactive, in collaboration with Microsoft, aims to expand its reach to a wider player base in the simulator games sector.

Although the game’s launch has been accompanied by various controversies, dedicated fans of the franchise are eager to find out whether Cities: Skylines 2 will be available on Game Pass. This concise guide aims to provide all the necessary information about the game’s inclusion in Microsoft’s gaming subscription and address frequently asked questions surrounding its free launch.

As a part of the October lineup, Cities: Skylines 2 is available on the PC Game Pass subscription. Players will be able to download the game on Windows 10 upon its release on October 24th. However, the Game Pass version won’t include any perks or expansions. (Players must purchase the Ultimate Edition to access all DLCs.)

Cities: Skylines 2 is the only PC-exclusive game hitting Game Pass in October. Other freebies are mostly cross-platform titles, such as Jusant, F1 Manager 2023, Dead Space, and Mineko’s Night Market.

Cities: Skylines 2 File Size on Game Pass

On PC Game Pass, Cities: Skylines 2 has a 56.67 GB file size. To put that in perspective, Cities: Skylines—the previous title in the franchise—required only 4 GB of disk space on the PC.

It’s worth noting that fans are dissatisfied with the game’s size, as it poses challenges for running it on low-spec systems. Furthermore, the developers raised the minimum PC requirements before the launch, which further fueled the controversy surrounding the specifications.

Will Cities: Skylines 2 Come to Xbox Game Pass?

Since the release of console versions is delayed to Spring of 2024, Cities: Skylines 2 won’t come to Xbox Game Pass at launch. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will need to wait for another five to six months to get their hands on the game.

This was not the original plan for the game’s release, as disclosed by the developer, Paradox Interactive. The game encountered unforeseen performance issues in the lead-up to its launch, which necessitated the company to delay its release on consoles.

Cities: Skylines 2 is available now on PC. (The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions will be launched later in the spring of 2024.)
