Pokemon Fan Designs a Dracula-Themed Eeveelution

[ad_1]

Highlights

  • Pokemon fans love creating new evolutions for Eevee, and one artist has designed a Dracula-inspired Dragon-type Eeveelution called Draculeon.
  • Draculeon fits well with the existing lore and naming mechanic of Eeveelutions, and it adds a unique twist by incorporating the vampire inspiration.
  • The popularity of Eevee and its evolutions in fan art is due to their frequent appearance in the top-searched Pokemon list and their established style that artists can build upon.

One talented Pokemon fan artist is sharing their Dracula-themed Eeveelution just in time for Halloween. In the world of Pokemon fan art, creating new evolutions, fusing two or more creatures together, and reimagining pocket monsters as different types are all common practices. Essentially, it’s fans’ way of showcasing familiar Pokemon in unfamiliar ways.

Even more specifically, fans like to imagine new Eeveelutions – a popular term for Eevee’s various evolutions. As fans know, Eevee is unique in that it can evolve into eight different Pokemon depending on various factors such as items used, moves learned, time of day, and even happiness level. The Pokemon Company hasn’t given Eevee a new evolution since the days of Pokemon X and Y, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what the next Eeveelution could be if another is introduced in a future generation.

Reddit user harmonia_region shared their Dracula-inspired, Dragon-type Eeveelution with the community as part of their fan art series. This isn’t the first time a Pokemon fan designed a Dragon-type Eeveelution, but harmonia_region put their own spin on it by using the infamous vampire as inspiration. The aptly-named Draculeon is described as an “ancient Fakemon” – Fakemon being the fan-coined term for unofficial Pokemon.

As one comment points out, Dracul translates to “dragon” in Romanian, so the fan-created Pokemon is actually working on several different levels. There is already a history of Pokemon being inspired by myths and folklore, so this piece feels like it fits right in with existing lore. Additionally, this follows the Eeveelution naming mechanic established since the first generation, while also adding its own unique wrinkle.

It makes sense why Eevee and its various evolutions are the subject of so many pieces of fan art. For one thing, several Eeveelutions landed in the 10 most-searched Pokemon last year. Also, Eevee’s various evolutions serve to give fans a template of sorts to work off of. With eight different Eeveelutions introduced in the series so far, there is already a pattern and accepted style that artists and fans recognize.

It’s similar to reimagining Pokemon with different types or creating Paradox forms of existing pocket monsters. These Pokemon fan art practices take existing creatures and transform them into something new. It’s fun for the artists because they get to flex their creative muscles, but it’s also fun for the fans because they can get a sense of the thought process that went into the creation of a given piece.
