  • Season 5 of Halo Infinite is highly anticipated, with rumored additions like Firefight, Extraction, and a new main menu.
  • Halo Infinite Season 5 releases in mid-October.

It is no secret that Halo Infinite has had a turbulent number of years, going back even before its November 2021 launch. The numerous delays brought on partially due to criticism of the game’s appearance had done little to set up the game for a successful launch. Once released, however, it did garner some praise for its campaign and gameplay. But these compliments were accompanied by criticism for the lack of a co-op campaign and the overall lack of content for the multiplayer. Many factors came into play, but the biggest hurdle for Halo Infinite has proved to be its live service model, due to the fact that 343 could not offer enough quality content to win over fans.

The story has continued for over a year and a half now. 343 has worked to provide content drops and updates with each new season, trying its best to win over the declining fan base. The population has wavered thus far in Halo Infinite‘s lifespan but as each new season releases there is at least some resurgence of players. Overall the current state of Halo Infinite is still far from perfect in the eyes of fans, but the game has certainly come a long way. Each season brings with it a good amount of new content, and if the leaks and rumors surrounding the updates in Season 5 prove to be true, Halo Infinite could be entering its most exciting season yet.

Halo Infinite and the Return of Firefight

The return of Halo franchise classic modes such as Forge, campaign co-op, and most recently Infection, has been a major step in the right direction for Halo Infinite. This trend is said to continue with Season 5. Leaks suggest Firefight could finally make its debut in Halo Infinite Season 5. To coincide with this popular PvE mode, updates to Forge are said to bring customizable AI to the mode so that players may be able to create their own maps and PvE game types. Season 5 is stated to also bring many other Forge updates such as new palettes, canvases, prefab modes, and more.

Aside from the release of Firefight, the other major focus of Season 5 is said to be the return of Extraction, a game type that originally debuted in Halo 4. This objective-based game type had players extracting “Slipspace Crates” at various sites around the map. Players would then have to protect the point as the extraction countdown timer decreased. Extraction was a popular Halo game type when it was released in Halo 4 and still circulates in The Master Chief Collection. A new version of this game type would be an interesting addition to the current matchmaking rotation.

Fans believe the new title for Season 5, Reckoning, might allude to the return of Firefight. It has also been hinted that several other major features will be added. These include an update to the anti-cheat system which is said to be more supportive of modding, renamed AI bot difficulties to make them more clear (they may be labeled Easy, Medium, Heroic, and Legendary), and a shift to the ranked meta which is yet to be specified. There are also rumors about what the new Armor Cores are going to be, some stating that they will be designed to look like “robots”, which would be a first for the Halo series. There is also another long-awaited feature coming, a drivable forklift.

Perhaps the most notable of the rumored content updates is the new main menu that is said to be coming in Season 5. Fans have long expressed their frustrations with the UI in Halo Infinite, and it seems as though 343 has heard them. It has not yet been officially confirmed, but news should be coming from 343 very soon as there is not much longer before Season 5 is supposed to be released. It is possible a trailer may be showcased during the Halo Infinite World Championship on October 13-15, if not before. For now, players will just have to wait and see. Halo Infinite Season 5 is set to drop on October 18.

Halo Infinite is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
